Issues

Brita is focused on the issues that matter most to all of us: health care, education and good jobs.

Brita refuses to waste time on political games. Instead, she has worked with both Democrats and Republicans on the real issues that affect the day-to-day lives of people in Northern Minnesota and across the state.

“Health care people can afford.”

We have great health care in this state. The problem is that people can’t afford it. Brita believes the more people who have health insurance, the more money we’ll all save in the long run – that’s why she fought last year to protect health coverage for 28,000 seniors and working Minnesotans.

“Giving rural kids a great education, without undue reliance on property taxes.”

Our students across the state—regardless if they are urban, suburban or rural—deserve access to the same quality education. Brita is concerned that relying on property taxes to fund our schools creates an unequal playing field between property rich school districts, like wealthy suburbs, and our rural communities.

Last year, Brita helped pass an 8% increase in K-12 funding to bring fair, stable state support back to rural classrooms.

“Economic opportunity for Northern Minnesota”

Brita wants to keep our area a great place to work and raise a family. That means keeping and attracting good jobs in sectors like tourism, natural resources, manufacturing and technology.

Last year, Brita helped pass property tax relief for homestead resorts and co-authored legislation to help small businesses get affordable health coverage. Brita wants to focus on better roads and improved internet and cell phone access – rural Minnesota’s lifelines.

“Working toward Minnesota Energy Security”

People in Northern Minnesota drive long distances to get to work and where they need to go. They rarely have the option of finding another job when gas prices go up.

Brita is working to promote common sense energy alternatives like biodiesel, wind and energy conservation that keep our energy dollars in Minnesota. It’s time to move forward now with clean energy we can depend on.
