Rep. Brita Sailer - Proven Leadership and Results

Votes to Protect Education Funding
- Voted to protect scholarships for middle class families making under $100,000.
- Voted to protect all state funding for early childhood programs.
- Voted to protect education funding from $300 million cut in FY10-11 and retain the New Minnesota Miracle provisions, including: voluntary all-day K, $600 million in property tax relief, special education funding and other programs.
- NOTE: Buesgens likely did not intend to cut schools by $300 million over FY10-11 but that was the way the amendment was drafted.
- Voted to pass House Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill to fund the New Minnesota Miracle. The bill phased in funding for voluntary full-day kindergarten, special education, and general increases in education funding. The bill also reduced K-12 mandates so that more funding can be directed to the classroom.
Votes for Federal Stimulus Funds
- Voted to ensure MnDOT is able to accept federal funds for transportation.
- If this amendment had passed, Minnesotans would pay taxes to the federal government without getting back our fair share. For every dollar that is paid to the federal government, North Dakota gets $1.68 back and South Dakota gets $1.53 back. Minnesota only gets 72 cents back, and this amendment would have made that worse.
- Voted to authorize MnDOT to use federal stimulus funds (HF 1797).
- Voted to authorize the use of federal stimulus funds for drinking water and wastewater (SF 1329).
- Voted to appropriate nearly $200 million in federal stimulus money for Green Jobs (HF 680).
- Voted to adjust budget procedures to accept federal stimulus money (HF 886).
Votes for Responsible Budgeting
- Voted to require the Governor to propose a balanced budget for the upcoming two-year budget cycle.
- Voted against adopting Governor’s appropriation bonds scheme (Sertich).
Pro-Business Votes
- Voted for Pro-Business Bill awarding 10% interest to businesses that prevail in insurance disputes. The bill will prevent insurance companies from dragging out the process so that businesses drop their lawsuit (Atkins).
- Vote for increasing the Research and Development Credit, acceleration of single sales factor and conforming with Section 179 expensing (Tax Bill – House Passage).
- Vote for Angel Investment Credit and upfront capital equipment exemption (Tax Bill – CCR).
Votes for Consumer Protection
- Voted for Pro-Consumer Bill protecting consumers from unscrupulous reverse mortgage practices (SF489).
- Voted against an amendment that advisories about mercury in fish (which can be harmful to children and pregnant women) only be released in English. This amendment implies that children whose parents don’t speak English should not be protected from mercury poisoning (Kohls).
- Omnibus Environment and Energy Finance Bill House passage (HF 2123). Republicans supported big chemical companies over children’s health. The bill helped ensure that parents have access to information about potentially harmful chemicals used in toys, car seats, clothing and other children’s products.
Vote for Green Acres Fix
- Green Acres: Vote for final Green Acres Fix.
Vote for Investing in Jobs
- Voted for a Bonding Bill that invested in “paint ready” projects to create an economic stimulus in Minnesota and put people back to work (HF 855).
- Amendment to delete “Made in America” provisions in the Jobs Bill (Anderson, S.). For certain products, the bill required local units of government to try to buy products made in America. This amendment deleted those provisions.
